The Student-Choir LUSCINIA (NIGHTINGALES) was founded in 1995 by its conductor Mgr. Jiri Slovik and his wife Mgr. Eliska Slovikova. The choir members are students from Opava high schools and the core of the choir are students from Mendel's high school.

LUSCINIA is one of the leading choirs in the Czech Republic and it enjoys a good reputation for great concert performances.

The choir has been awarded notable places in the assessment of not only Czech, but also world choirs since its origin.

Former members of LUSCINIA are soloists at the Silesian Theatre in Opava and at the National Theatre in Prague. Some of them are studying orchestral or choir conducting.
